About

Hello! My name is Lee and I would love to welcome you to my brand new blog, Popcorn and Page-Turners.

As the name (hopefully) implies, I adore escaping into the silver screen 🍿 and I also enjoy nothing more than becoming a temporary citizen of the 📚 books I read.

So recently, I decided to take the plunge and create this blog, which I hope will connect me with folks who also share (suffer with) that insatiable passion for storytelling that these wonderful and truly special mediums provide.

There ain’t a lot to see around this joint at the moment, that’s for sure. However I am beyond giddy about slowly building up this blog to genuinely reflect my passion for all things movies and books. I’m looking forward to sharing some film and book reviews, some fascinating deep-dives, some ‘book vs. screen’ comparisons and goodness knows what else! Oooohhh it’s going to be a hoot!

So if you are a fellow incurable movie fan and you have a penchant for disappearing nose-first into a well-loved paperback, then I hope you’ll stick around and join in on the fun.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Much love,

Lee xx

  1. Hi Lee! Mary Rose here. This blog idea is great! Sadly books have taken a back seat to crochet lately. But fortunately movies and crochet work well together. I love all things Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. Last night I watched Sabrina on YouTube. Audrey was just so elegant her whole life. I hope to make an amigurumi of her one day. I have the Iconic Women book, so it’s on the ever growing list. I think I will watch my Fair Lady next. Cheers, love ❤

    1. Hi Mary Rose! Thank you so much for stopping by and for your kind words. So sweet of you.
I hear you on the great push and pull that exists when you have more than one hobby. Sometimes paralysis sets in when I can’t decide how I want to spend my time! Crochet does have a funny way of nudging out most things, though 😉

Two wonderful actresses and ladies you have chosen there ❤️ I’m currently working on a post in which I gush about a performance of Audrey’s that has just not left my head. She’s wonderful in everything, but this particular performance blew me away. I’ll try to get it written and posted as soon as I can, because I would love to know your thoughts!

I’m yet to get my hands on the Iconic Women book, but my it’s tempting!! 🥰
Many thanks again, Mary Rose! Xx

(P.S. If you are yet to see Wendy Hiller as Eliza Doolittle in 1938’s Pygmalion, I highly recommend checking it out. You don’t get that stunning b&w outfit or the music or Audrey’s magic of course, but I just loved Hiller’s portrayal.)

      1. Hi Lee,
I had no idea! I watched Pymalion. Wendy was awesome and so was Leslie Howard, or Ashley Wilks as I see him! I’m guessing you know who I mean, lol. I then watched the version with Peter O’Toole. Not half as good. Neither of them hold a candle to Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn, and the wonderful songs and gowns. I could have danced all night!! Lovely to chat with you Lee. Can’t wait to hear your next vlog. Love MR❤

      2. So glad to hear you enjoyed Hiller & Howard 🥰
😅 Certainly a lot less musical, but I just loved their portrayals 💝
I am yet to see the O’Toole version! I may regret this, but I’m going to have to watch it now 😂 I’m too intrigued 🤔
Will let you know how I get on 😉
        Cheers again, MR 💞 xx
